10 Key Takeaways from the Femme Fit Podcast So Far

Next Monday, March 25th, we are celebrating ten episodes of The Femme Fit Society podcast, with our very first Book Club episode! We are so thrilled to have you all on this journey with us as we showcase women who are making an impact within the health and fitness industry in many different ways.

To get you prepared - here are ten key takeaways we’ve learnt from our awesome baddie guests so far!

1.You’re never too old to chase your dreams (Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias, Episode 2)

This year Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias is hoping to get back to the Olympics at age 41. After winning Gold in Bejing, and a hugely successful CrossFit career, she praises her “really solid fitness background” for allowing her to still be competing at world class level in her forties.

2. Comparison is the thief of joy (Danielle Gertner, Episode 1)

Danielle Gertner is a confidence coach, and says that one of the key things when searching for confidence in both the gym and life, is to stop comparing yourself to others. In our first episode she says “give yourself the space and the grace to be ever evolving” and not to worry about what the people around you are doing, and it’ll change your life.

3. You’re never too young to start your fitness journey (Dr Bre Davis-Shoemaker, Episode 4)

“We teach kids now how they are going to be as adults” - Dr Bre says. Teaching kids to be the best version of themselves from a young age, and creating a life for them outside of school and screens, is so important. It helps to develop them in their younger years, and they will learn skills that’ll lead to them being fit and healthy adults.

4. Mental health is health - Dr Christina Migliara (Episode 3)

Dr Christina explains that it is so important that we keep bridging the gap between mental and physical health, she says “There’s no evidence to suggest the mind and body are separate” - they come hand in hand. Christina believes that sports like CrossFit are excellent advocates of showcasing this, and more sports should do the same.

5. Weightlifting is never a bad choice (Emma Pilkington, Episode 8)

As Meet Director for the awesome ‘Barbell Babes’, Emma Pilkington knows a thing or two about Weightlifting. She talks us through all the incredible ways that picking up a barbell can change your life; “Not just feeling empowered, feeling strong, but also the huge health benefits of keeping your body in a conditioned way so that you can handle everyday life.”

6. Action = Motivation (Bethany Robinson, Episode 5)

Bethany Robinson, aka SportyBeth says that she doesn’t tend to rely on motivation to train, especially during pregnancy, so she tells us about the action/ motivation cycle; “start with action and motivation will turn up halfway through.” It’s worked well for Beth so far, who has continuously trained through her pregnancy, no matter how sick she has felt!

7. Always take time away from work for yourself (even if you don’t want to), (Kaleda Connell, Episode 6)

Being a CEO of a successful business, Kaleda is no stranger to long working hours and putting work ahead of yourself. But she tells us that she can tell when she needs that break and will do three main things; go to the gym, take her dog for a walk, and spend some quality time with her partner. Pick three things to prioritize outside of work and make sure you include them into your busy weeks!

8. A strong mindset can benefit whatever route you take (Nicole Baranowski, Episode 9)

In the last few years, Nicole Baranowski has been building her awesome brand,. ‘Hairstrong’, but she credits a lot of her business mindset to the athlete one she developed whilst training as a Rower in college, and how she chose to spend her extra time - “because that’s how I wanted to spend my time, the rest of the mindset came from - this is the amount of time I have left, and we’re gonna make it work.” Showing that if you are passionate about something, you make the time and make it happen!

9. Pick a goal and work backwards (Taryn Dubreuil, Episode 8)

Every day, Taryn will coach others to develop their own small businesses, but one of the biggest things she has learnt, and now teaches, is that a great way to get where you want to be is to set a goal, and work backwards. Assess each gap from where you are at now, to the end goal, and process one by one. Ultimately, you’ll fill the gaps and make it to your end goal.

10. The Femme Fit Society is relatable and here for you (All episodes, but mainly our intro episode with Kelly, Lindsey and Leah)
